Blown Out, Dried Out, Hailed Out -
The Great Depression in Saskatchewan

Program Information

This program provides a multi-faceted approach to understanding the Great Depression and its effects on the people of Saskatchewan during, and after, the 1930s. In the in-museum Discovery Box, students will find physical representations of daily life during the Great Depression as well as photographs and maps. Through these artifacts, students will imagine what it was like to live during the 1930s. Can you imagine wearing a dress or underwear made from an itchy flour sack? The aim of the in-classroom lesson plans is to use a variety of ELA strategies that will challenge students to get inside the subject matter and make personal links between the past, present, and future.
