Home Sweet Home: First Nations Education

Program Information

This is a study of four phases of First Nations education: traditional transmission; Treaties and education; residential schools; contemporary educational initiatives in Saskatchewan's First Nations communities. The in-museum Discovery Box contains artifacts, photos, and documents related to early First Nations societies, Treaties and Residential Schools. In-classroom lesson plans ask students to research and discuss Treaty 6, the Indian Act, and Residential Schools.

In-Museum Discovery Box Program

Items from the First Nations Education Discovery Box, including a knit sock, birch bark basket, and reed dollThis teacher-led Discovery Box contains an array of artifacts, documents, and photos, including a copy of Treaty 6, a replica Treaty medal, a bone toss game, a map of Residential Schools across Canada, and comments from Residential School survivors. 

Cost: In-museum Discovery Box programs are
$3.00 / student. Pre-booking is required.
