Celebrate Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan 1905-2005 Guide For Teachers

Some items from the WDM Celebrations program - a Metis sash, jingles from a First Nations dress, a Chinese lantern, placecards and photos from 2005 festivitiesStudents will gain an appreciation for how elements of the arts, including music, dance, drama, and visual art, are integral components of how we celebrate in Saskatchewan. Students will explore family, community, provincial, and national occasions celebrated in Saskatchewan since 1905. Emphasis will be placed on the diverse cultural groups represented in Saskatchewan.

Grades: Grade 7 English Language Arts (also Grade 6 and Grade 8 ELA)

Connecting to the World: Saskatchewan Achievements in Communication
Saskatchewan 1905-2005 Guide For Teachers

CommunicationStudents will learn about how communications, or lack thereof, affected the lives of people in the past, challenges which impeded communication with others, and how communications continue to play a major role in the lives of people today. In the in-museum Discovery Box program, students will examine artifacts to learn about how advances in commutations technology have affected the daily lives of people in Saskatchewan. The FREE in-classroom lesson plans will focus on Saskatchewan's achievements in the field of communication, including SaskTel's fame as a world leader in fiber optic technology.

Load of Nonsense

Overview: The program is a teacher-led artifact game of truth or lie with an immigration theme. Load Of Nonsense places students in the role of early settlers, who work together as immigrants on a journey to reach Saskatchewan.

Grades: Grade 7 Social Studies (Also Grades 3-8)

Saskatchewan Wartime Contributions
Saskatchewan 1905-2005 Guide For Teachers

Items from the Wartime Discovery Box - a hand knit sock, beaded poppy, ration coupon book, Victory Bond ad, bag of wheatStudents will learn about Saskatchewan's participation in the world wars, our contributions, and about life on the homefront. The in-museum Discovery Box program focuses on the homefront and the effects of war on the people of Saskatchewan. FREE in-classroom lesson plans discuss how young people helped war efforts and the experience of Aboriginal people during and after the First World War.

Smarter Science Better Buildings

This teacher-led program introduces the concepts of heat and temperature through exploration of hands-on workstations. Students also examine past and present examples of home efficiency as demonstrated in museum exhibits.

Synergy - Cooperation in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan 1905-2005 Guide For Teachers

CooperationStudents will learn about early co-operation in Saskatchewan, what an organised co-operatives is, and what co-operative action means. Particular attention will be paid to the co-operative movement in Saskatchewan. The in-museum Discovery Box program will highlight the many ways Saskatchewan's people have demonstrated their co-operative spirit. FREE in-classroom lesson plans focus on co-operatives in times of crisis and the spirit of co-operation at work in their families, in their school, and in their communities.
