Steam vapours, gasoline fumes, chaff flying, horses whinnying ... all mingle to create an experience of pioneer prairie harvest each year at Pion-Era. Since 1954 the Saskatoon WDM has paid tribute to prairie roots with a host of lively activities at the annual Pion-Era show.

The Story of Threshing
The WDM’s world famous steam and gas engines huff and puff at the Story of Threshing which showcases the march of farm power from human to horse, from steam to gas-powered machines, as golden sheaves are threshed into grain.
Parade of Power
Witness the awesome power of operating steam and gas engines and early agricultural equipment.

Pion-Era Honoured by Tourism Saskatoon
On June 8, 2011, Tourism Saskatoon held an event to recognize the
efforts of organizations and individuals in promoting Saskatoon tourism
through various events. A gala event was held at the Sheraton Cavalier
where awards were presented to 11 individuals. Pion-Era was recognized
for being part of the Saskatoon community since 1955. Brenda Mundell
accepted the award for Pion-Era which was being honoured in the Annual
Festivals category. Brenda acknowledged the efforts of our many
volunteers for the work put into Pion-Era over the years. Pion-Era could
not have been successful for so many years without the tireless efforts
of our volunteers. Thank you to Brenda as well, for her guidance in
planning Pion-Era for the past four years.
