Quantum: The Exhibition

March 14 - June 11, 2017

Quantum information technologies are poised to once again transform how we live, work and play.'s 1947 and you are seeing a transistor for the first time. Little do you know that this small device will go on to transform our society in ways that, at the time, seemed unimaginable. Fast forward to 70 years later and the transistor is so pervasive that we don't even realize how powerful this small technology really is - transistors are in our homes, our cars, our pockets, everywhere! The transistor today drives information technology as we know it.

Quantum information technologies are starting to emerge from research labs around the world and we are already seeing the tremendous possibilities. These technologies are more precise, more powerful and more efficient than today's classical technologies. But how do they work? What does it mean to be quantum? Why is quantum so different?

Quantum: the Exhibition

Quantum: The exhibitionQUANTUM: The Exhibition shares the exciting world of quantum technologies and answers these questions and more. This first-ever exhibition on quantum information science and technology examines how quantum mechanics and information technology are merging to create technologies that will revolutionize and define the 21st century. Using thoughtful and creative stories and engaging multi-level interactives, this exhibition breaks down the barriers of this fascinating science for Canadians of all ages and backgrounds.

The exhibition celebrates Canada's innovative past and its transformative future as part of the CANADA 150 celebrations. Thanks to the Department of Canadian Heritage, QUANTUM is a key partner in the INNOVATION 150 program. QUANTUM: The Exhibition was created by the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.

2017 is a pivotal milestone in Canada's history and its future. QUANTUM: The Exhibition and its complementary programming shares the wonders of the quantum world and give Canadians one more reason to be proud to call Canada home.
