Description:
Imagine a sleigh ride dashing through the snow, the smell of fresh gingerbread coming from a hot oven or a twinkling handmade star ornament on a Christmas tree. In this program, students will learn how settlers and their families celebrated the holidays in Saskatchewan more than 100 years ago with activities inspired from the WDM Yorkton Collection. Students will learn historical holiday traditions and while doing so, may even recognize a few traditions celebrated today that have been passed down through generations.
This is a teacher-led program with three half-hour segments. Students rotate through three activities:
- A craft session for your grade (Pre-K, Grade 1-3 and Grade 4-6)
- A Christmas-themed gallery scavenger hunt
- Tractor-drawn wagon ride around WDM grounds
