Description

The Wheels and Runners program offers students an educational and engaging way to learn about the influence of the natural environment on Saskatchewan’s communities and their methods of transportation.

This is a Museum-led, in-Museum program supported by chaperones. The program takes two hours to complete and has four components.

The first component is a Travel in Saskatchewan discussion that the whole class participates in together. A script with accompanying images and hands-on artifacts enables Museum staff to introduce three environments in Saskatchewan and how they influence modes of transportation.

The class is then divided into three groups with each taking a turn participating in the next three components of the program:

  • Design Your Own Transportation – This component invites students to apply the information gained in the Travel in Saskatchewan discussion to create a mode of transportation to suit one of the three environments.
  • Artifact Quest – Takes students on a mission to find transportation-related artifacts throughout the Museum galleries using cardinal directions and map reading skills.
  • Wheels and Runners Bingo – Challenges students to review the terms and concepts covered in the Travel in Saskatchewan discussion in a fun and familiar way.
