“First was the land. Then came the people. The Elbow’s history grows out of its location.” Just as the water of the Aiktow still flows through the lake, a current from events long past moves through life here today.

From the earliest hunters who first flaked their spear points along the South Saskatchwan River more than 4,000 years ago, to the sports fishermen who launched their boats into the water of Lake Diefenbaker last summer, this book traces the history and the impact of the people who travelled through and sometimes settled in this area. The look is both personal and up-close, inviting readers to come along and see what others saw before them.
