Virtual Camp Day 2: From the Earth
Colour Saskatchewan’s provincial flower, the Western Red Lily, learn how to gather and press real flowers, and test your gardening smarts with a matching game.
As you complete each activity, share your work with other campers and the WDM on this week’s Kudoboard.
Caregiver note: This is not a private board. Please make sure your children do not post anything you are uncomfortable with them sharing.
Activity #1: Western Red Lily
The Western Red Lily has been Saskatchewan’s official floral emblem since 1941.
Activity #2: Flower Pressing
Next time you’re on a walk, keep your eyes open to all the plants that grow here in Saskatchewan. A fun activity is collecting flowers on walks and later pressing them. Learn more by watching the video, then try it yourself!

Activity #3: Try Your Green Thumb
Plants are very important because they provide us with useful things such as food, shelter, furnishing, paper and pencils, clothing, medicine, dye for wool, water (transpiration), cooler temperatures and oxygen. Watch the video to learn more about plans and then plant a seed of your own.
Activity #4: Gardening Matching Activity
Match each vegetable name with its picture.
Activity #5: Farming in Saskatchewan
Farming is an important industry in Saskatchewan. Watch the video to see how farmers planted seeds in their big fields 100 years ago using a horse-drawn seeder.
