Join us at the Museum for a day of learning the art of beadwork. Guided by Indigenous facilitator Jody Henderson of Prairie Cree Beads, participants will be introduced to the basics of beading while creating their own earrings. This hands-on workshop will also share insight into the cultural significance of this traditional craft.
There will be a one-hour break from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Space is limited to 14 spots and pre-registration is required.
Jody Henderson was born in Prince Albert (Treaty 4 Territory) and raised in Moose Jaw, with roots in James Smith Cree Nation. As a Sixties Scoop survivor, much of her early life was spent away from her culture. About five years ago, she began a meaningful journey reconnecting with her Cree identity, culture, and heritage. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jody joined a First Nations women’s healing circle where she learned beadwork. What began as learning a new skill soon became something deeper – a way to connect with culture, community, and healing.
Today, Jody works as a Registered Massage Therapist and Esthetician and is also a proud Kokum to two grandsons. Together they spend time learning about their culture, travelling to powwows, and creating new memories while reconnecting with traditions that continue to guide their path.
