In recognition of African Canadian Black History Month, the WDM Moose Jaw invites you to learn about an often-overlooked chapter of Saskatchewan's history through our Seek and Find activity.

From the 1880s to the 1960s, sleeping car porters were almost exclusively Black men, whose uniform included grey caps. A porter is responsible for every aspect of customer service on the train cars, aside from taking tickets, which fell to the conductor. This included cleaning, making beds, stoking fires, shining shoes, giving local advice, and information to passengers.

Pick up a seek and find activity sheet on the table just before the glass doors. Search the Museum Galleries for images of porter caps. After you’re done, put it in the seek and find box on the table to be entered to win a prize.
