2020

The Language Remediation Project (renamed the Interpretive Content Renewal Project in 2025) begins answering the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action #43 and #67.

All WDM locations closed temporarily in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Summer shows and camps were cancelled as the pandemic continued, with all WDM locations re-opened in August under provincial restrictions.

The Western Development Museum, in partnership with Spirit Wrestlers Productions and the University of Saskatchewan, is honoured to be the recipient of the 2020 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! for The Saskatchewan Doukhobor Living Book Project.

The Western Development Museum (WDM) is the largest human history museum in Saskatchewan. With a collection of over 75,000 artifacts ranging from pins to locomotives and four locations in the province, the WDM shares the Saskatchewan story from the Treaties to the present day.

The WDM’s facilities are situated in Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories and the Homeland of the Métis. The provincial boundaries for Saskatchewan also include Treaty 2, Treaty 5, Treaty 8 and Treaty 10 territories. Please visit WDM Reconciliation for more information.
