Description

Self-Guided Visits are a wonderful way for learners of all ages to experience the WDM Yorkton. The WDM Yorkton provides curriculum connected scavenger hunts to encourage learning and discovery. Scavenger hunts give direction and extra information for chaperoned student groups to explore the Museum galleries. Students work together to find featured artifacts and answer challenging, age-appropriate and curriculum connected questions about Saskatchewan heritage. Groups can visit all galleries and exhibits at their own pace, spending time at the artifacts that piques their interest.

WDM Yorkton galleries to explore include:

  • 100 Years of Saskatchewan History exhibit featuring displays about immigration and settlement in Saskatchewan, leisure activities and a 100 year timeline of Saskatchewan history
  • Yorkton Local History exhibit
  • Showcase Rooms featuring artifacts from different countries
  • In A Prairie Attic: Bladon Family Toys exhibit

Download the full booklet with further program information (PDF).

There are four add-on opportunities to further enhance your self-guided visit (additional fees apply):

Ice Cream Making Demonstration

Butter Making Demonstration

Rope Making Demonstration

Candle Making Demonstration

Program Type

Teacher-Led

Teachers will lead the program using scripts or other information provided by the Museum.  Museum staff will not guide you and your students. Museum staff or volunteers will:
  • Greet your group when you arrive to introduce the program and review the Museum rules.
  • Ensure that all required materials are ready.
  • Will review the program with teachers before the start so that teachers are comfortable delivering the program.
Scripts will help guide you and your students in exploring and learning from the artifacts, replicas and photos used in these programs. Teachers may request the program script to review before their visit. Staff will check in with teachers during the program to answer questions or, if needed, to help direct students to their next activity.
