The Wheels and Runners program offers students an educational and engaging way to learn about the influence of the natural environment on Saskatchewan's communities and their methods of transportation.
This is a Museum-led, in-Museum program supported by chaperones. The program takes two hours to complete and has four components.
The first component is a Travel in Saskatchewan discussion. First, students will discuss Travel in Saskatchewan together as a class. Images and hands-on artifacts enable Museum staff to introduce students to three environments in Saskatchewan and how those environments influence modes of transportation.
Next, the class is divided into three groups with each group taking a turn
participating in the following three components of the program:

Social Studies DR2.1:
Investigate stories of significant events and persons in the local community’s history to describe the contribution of those who lived in the community in earlier times.
Social Studies DR2.2:
Analyze the influence of the natural environment on the local community.
Social Studies DR3.1:
Use various model representations of the Earth.
Social Studies DR3.2:
Assess the degree to which the geography and related environmental and climatic factors influence ways of living on and with the land.

Chaperone Ratios: Groups are expected to provide chaperones (including teachers) at a ratio of 1 adult per 5 students. These chaperones are admitted free of charge. Support staff and chaperones for students with significant needs are allowed at a 1:1 ratio at no charge.
Admission for additional adults beyond the required number is $14 each.
Visiting with multiple classes: It is NOT possible for two classes from the same school to participate in this program concurrently. Teachers may consider planning a visit at the same time as a another class participating in a different program or self-guided visit. Both classes should book seperately, but indicate the name and contact information of all educators that will be attending on their joint booking.
